WARNING!
GRAPHIC SHELTER PICTURE...
Petfinder PetNotes
Of course, immediately it made me think of poor
Grace.
Small Paws® Rescue: His Amazing Grace
Small Paws® volunteer, Sandy Sowell
managed to not only save Grace, but to turn her into a stark raving beauty and
one happy little girl! God has truly allowed us to see that miracles are indeed
alive and well at Small Paws Rescue!
Ok, back to our story. Last night, as I say, I got this
picture of this ...well...they say it is a dog...I am still not too
sure,...judging by the picture.

The dog is
in one of the CACC's in New York. I was thinking..."Oh dear...surely it can't
still be there." They usually put dogs in this bad of shape down...and who could
really blame them. I mean, it isn't really likely someone is going to come
running in at the last minute and say..."WAIT!!! We want that
dog!!"....Hmmm....or IS it?!
Well, that is exactly what is happening this very morning!
I sometimes wish you guys could see it when the e-mails are flying, late at
night...in emergency mode. Several people are awake, and talking on the
phones...making plans...plans to save a dog which may not even still be alive. I
am going to show you just a few of those e-mails at the bottom of the page...so
you can see how a rescue is put together...late at night. We have renamed this
baby from "Harry" to "Dodger"...(he is from Brooklyn after all!:)

Darlings....
Today we did something wonderful -
today I was supposed to be in North
carolina but I couldn't go - obviously God had a plan for
me right here.
It
all started last night with frantic calls and emails flying around - BIG
QUESTION - Was this
little sad tragic dog called Harry, in those e AWFUL
pictures on Petfinder - was he still
alive?? Well - at 8am this morning,
Harlene in NYC said he was and Jason (my wonderful
co-pilot-rescue hubby)
and I launched in the car to Brooklyn - first we had to
stop in Manhattan
for
an appointment for Jason the we drove for about 20 miles to south
Brooklyn to this
shelter CCAC where this little guy was. The shelter was
nasty and very smelly but the lady at
the shelter MARTHA was a real dear -
she obviously cared about this dog and had named him
"HARRY".
We got
him out and started the long drive back to NJ - he sat on my lap and
just stared out at
the world.... it was heartbreaking. After 2 hrs we
arrived at my airport in Toms River
and everyone fell in love with this
little dog.
Anyway - we all got in the plane - Dodger was so sweet -
just hooped into
the
crate and in less than 40 mins we were meeting Linda Ackerman in
Philly.
We got
home at 7pm!! We drove 250 miles and flew 140miles!!! and it was
worth every hour and
mile...
I'm ready
to go again tomorrow :-)))
lotsa luv

Hi
All,
want to thank you for all the wonderful "networking" that went on to
get this guy out of that shelter.
As soon as my camera unloads, I will be
sending everyone pics. Please feel free to forward them if I forgot to include
anyone.
Dodger is doing ok. He has kennel cough, but it's not too bad. We
will be treating that with clavamox.
He has terribly ulcerated ears. He
did pitch a fit when the vet dug in there to get the gobs of wax, pus and blood
out. We have a cleaner to use and some panalog, which I already have.
His
eyes are cloudy from thickening of the corneas.. might be the start of a
cataract, but he can see just fine. I had a teeny little piece of a barb bar in
my hand and he wanted it. Knew where it was.
He can also hear. Even thru
all the black gook and pus. While I was taking pictures of him, he could hear
the clicking and would look my way.
The shelter cut most of his hair off
- or should I say, his dreadlocks. There are still quite a few still hanging off
his ear flappers and his paws, so the girls in the vet office were singing
Reggae' songs to him. :-D
He is going potty outside and just finished a
huge bowl of California natural canned food, with some Nutro Natural mixed
in.
We have some eye meds -- his right eyelid, is inflammed from tearing,
probably from the kennel cough.
There was no murmur detected, which was a
surprise to the vet. He weighed in at 11 pounds.
His vet feels that we
will be able to estimate his age and his condition in about 2 more weeks, to see
if he is responding well to proper nutrition.
At the moment he looks
like a little baby piglet, with pink and black skin. OH, and he did squeel at
the vets while having his teeth looked at, so I am calling him piglet just for
fun.
He had blood drawn for heartworm testing, we'll know the results
tomorrow, and we got him some Interceptor. In the condition he was in, it will
be another miracle if he is negative. Just for extra protection, he has his St.
Francis Medal on.
He's a fiesty little thing. I had him in a puppy panel
pen, and he climbed out to get to me. I want to isolate him from my gang, till
he's over the KC and to make sure everyhing is ok.
He wants to be hugged.
He wants to be carried and held and talked to.
That's the report for
tonight. He's doing very good for now. Coughing and a bit snotty, but we'll fix
that right up.
Thanks again,
Linda Ackerman, Director of Cockers
in Need

Morning
Ladies,
I had the
pleasure of speaking to Juliette today.
She and her husband are going to Manhattan and getting him
OUT today - around noonish I believe (that's when they
open).
They will
drive him home to Redbank NJ, and then, he'll board the Small Paws® Rescue Plane
and fly his fluff to an air field about 1/2 hour from us, and we'll pick him
up.
I have my vet
on call -- we have him scheduled for 7:30 tonight for a check
up.
I would guess
he's dehydrated, anemic, and in pain from those mats. If we have to -- we'll
give him a little something to help him relax so we can shave those mats off.
Might try to
salvage some of it - but hey, comfort is first and foremost.
Digitial is charged up and ready to
go.
Do you have an
idea for a name better than HARRY?
I saved his shelter picture, so we can do a little web page
of before, during and after. Let's all hope we are not too late for this
baby.>
As soon as
we have him, and have him evaluated, I will let you all know the
status!
The E-mail
trail of the rescue of "Harry", now known as "Dodger" from Brooklyn! We now have
him and he is on the way to the vet!

Someone needs to do
a serious eval on this one and see what is up.
Most of the time, CACC
puts them down if they look like this, especiall a senior

HA, well, I
see tan/brown -- but that could be filth, blood from fleas, etc. This dog is
anemic, I would bet my last puppy treat on it. She needs Nutrical, goats milk
and puppy stew.
